Dr. C. S. Dwarakanath is a distinguished social justice advocate and the former Chairman of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission. Widely recognized as the founder of the Ahinda movement, he has dedicated his life to empowering Dalits, backward classes, minorities, tribals, and nomadic communities across Karnataka.Hailing from a modest background in Kolar, one of Karnataka’s most underdeveloped districts, Dr. Dwarakanath overcame systemic barriers to earn degrees in Science, Law, and Literature, including a Doctorate (D. Lit) from Hampi Kannada University on the life and teachings of Kaiwara Tathaiah. His academic journey also includes a certificate in Journalism and Mass Communication.

A true Ambedkarite at heart, Dr. Dwarakanath has been instrumental in shaping the discourse on equity and representation. His pioneering leadership in the Nomad Tribal Forum unified over 120 marginalized communities. As Chairperson of the State Commission for Backward Classes, he spearheaded the landmark socio-educational survey that identified and brought recognition to previously unnamed and overlooked communities—marking a historic step forward in Karnataka’s social policy.His notable contribution includes translating the Indian Constitution into Kannada—an inclusive version enriched with original drawings, amendments, testimonials, and signatures—making the foundational document accessible to the people.

Dr. Dwarakanath’s influence extends beyond borders. As a delegate to the World Racial Conference in Durban and participant in international human rights forums in Bangkok and Dhaka, he brought global attention to India’s marginalized voices. His journalism career with Lankesh Patrike and 40-year legal practice in human rights advocacy further amplified these causes.A committed Congress party supporter, he played an essential role in securing electoral support from marginalized communities in recent state and national elections. He has actively participated in key movements such as the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the Mekedatu Padayatra, standing alongside leaders like Rahul Gandhi in the fight for justice and unity. Whether guiding the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Research Centre or championing Basavanna as Karnataka’s Cultural Icon, Dr. Dwarakanath’s work reflects an unwavering commitment to dignity, inclusion, and social transformation. His fearless opposition to majoritarian ideologies and his presence on the Sangh Parivar’s hitlist speak volumes of his resolve.
